Liberia: Information Minister distances the Executive from search at
Taylor's residence
The Information Ministry says the Executive Branch of government did not request the search and seizure
warrant that was taken to the home of former President Taylor.
A group of white men accompanied by armed Police officers reportedly carried out a search at White Flower
for over forty minutes on Sunday.
Information Minister Laurence Bropleh said the warrant was granted by a Magistrate who had been
presented what he called all the facts.
Dr. Bropleh however, declined to disclose the facts and identify the people who requested the search and
seizure warrant.
He told reporters only the Magistrate could disclose the identity of the people who requested the warrant.
Dr. Bropleh’s statements were in reaction to allegation by an associate of Mr. Taylor that the Ministries of
Foreign Affairs and Justice masterminded the search.
Minister Bropleh maintained that government had no particular interest in the trial and would not take sides.
Meanwhile, Star Radio gathered the operation at Mr. Taylor’s house on Sunday was a joint criminal
investigation by American investigators in collaboration with the Liberia National Police.
A credible diplomatic source hinted Star Radio that the operation however, has nothing to do with the UN-
backed Special Court in Sierra Leone.
